The Texans gained 234 yards on the ground and 357 through the air while holding the Greyhound rushing offense, which came into the game averaging 360.1 yards rushing, to just 139 yards on the ground. ENMU had 110 yards passing, its largest total of the season.
The Texans remained undefeated on the season (8-0) while improving to 3-0 in the Lone Star Conference South Division.
For the first time this season, an opponent both scored first and led after the first quarter. The only points in the first 15 minutes of the contest came on a 25-yard field goal by the Greyhounds' Jordan Walker with 10:52 on the clock.
The Texans then scored 21 unanswered points. The first score came on a 19-yard touchdown pass from Scott Grantham to Devin Guinn with 14:55 remaining in the second period. The touchdown ended a six-play, 69-yard drive that took 2:32 off the clock. Stephen Arnold's kick made it 7-3 Tarleton.
Tarleton's Kyle Hopf punted the ball on a fourth down for the Texans, and the ball was downed at the one-yard line. The Greyhounds drove 94 yards, but the Texan defense forced a turnover on downs at their own five-yard line.
On the ensuing drive, the Texans went 95 yards on six plays in 59 seconds to score again. This time, Grantham found Sampson for a 65-yard touchdown pass. Arnold's kick increased the Tarleton lead to 11 as the Texans took a 14-3 advantage.
The Texan defense forced a punt with just under two minutes left in the first half, and the offense drove 66 yards in 1:33 to score with 20 seconds left on the clock when Sampson found the endzone one more time on the eighth snap of the drive. After the extra point, the Texans had a 21-3 lead at the break.
Tarleton got the ball first in the second half and was driving before a fumble by Grantham turned the ball over to the home team. The Texan defense forced another punt, but the offense stalled and Hopf put another punt inside the 20, this time on the 11-yard line.
The Greyhounds had a second and nine from the 12, but the Texan defense forced Jason Walker backwards, and Chris Bacak recorded the Texans first safety since Ken Jones stopped Southwestern Oklahoma quarterback Beau Dodson on Nov. 6, 2004. The Texans led 23-3 with 4:06 remaining in the third quarter.
