8th ranked Texans enter Homecoming showdown with Abilene Christian

WACO - The Tarleton Texan football team has moved up two spots in the American Football Coaches Association poll to No. 8 in the nation.

The Texans, who improved to 8-0 after a 40-10 win at Eastern New Mexico Saturday, were ranked No. 10 in last week's poll.

Grand Valley State (7-0), who set a Division II record with their thirty-fifth straight victory last week, remains atop this week's poll. North Alabama (7-0), Chadron State (8-0), Nebraska-Omaha (7-0) and West Texas A&M (8-0) round out the top five.

California (8-0), Northwest Missouri State (6-1), Tarleton, North Dakota (6-1) and Delta State (6-1) complete the Top 10. Delta State was ranked No. 5, but the Statesmen lost to UNA, 28-17, Saturday while then-No. 7 Catawba lost to Tusculum, 31-28.

Other LSC schools in the poll are No. 21 Abilene Christian (6-2) and No. 23 Midwestern State (6-2). No. 18 Mesa State (8-0) and No. 19 Pittsburg State (6-2) are the only other teams ranked from the Southwest Region.

The Texans are ranked No. 10 in the D2Football.com poll, No. 8 in Don Hansen's Football Gazette poll and No. 4 in the CollegeSportsReport.com poll.

Tarleton will return to action Saturday, Oct. 27 when the Texan host No. 21 ACU for the Homecoming game at 2 p.m.
