Five budget requests were approved in the Student Government Association meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 5:15 p.m. in the Thompson Student Center, Room 22D. The Tarleton Plowboys, Alpha Phi Alpha, Promoting Understanding of Lifestyles through Service and Education (P.U.L.S.E.), Collegiate FFA, and Alpha Phi Omega each had requests.
The maximum amount any organization can request is $650. If any organization misses more than three house meetings, they become ineligible to request funding from the SGA.
Zach Wade and Brandon Danek represented the Plowboys, who asked for $650 to help fund the L.V. Risinger Memorial Bonfire. After voting, the council agreed to fun the Plowboys the full amount. The allocated money will be for fuel to travel to the bonfire location, vehicle repair in the event of a flat tire, water, gloves, helmets, and any first aid requirements needed in the building process.
On behalf of Alpha Phi Alpha, Nicholas Rischer requested $650 to fund Ice Plex, the organization's Ninth Annual Step Show Competition, held on Oct. 27. The house granted Alpha Phi Alpha the full amount, which will help cover the cost of the host, refreshments, security and scholarship money.
Paul Navarro then requested $571 for P.U.L.S.E. to fund the Pride Parade which was on Oct. 11. The house voted and the full request was granted.
Representatives Talisa Richardson and Heather Smith requested $650 for Collegiate FFA to help finance the National FFA Convention, which will be on Oct. 23 in Indianapolis. This request was also approved.
Travis Johnston requested $450 for Alpha Phi Omega to sponsor the Region VII Conference on Oct. 12. The council agreed to fund the full amount.
SGA meets every Wednesday at 5:15 p.m. in Room 22D of the TSC. Each Tarleton recognized organization has the opportunity to ask for funding.
