The Texans came out looking anything but stale this week as they steamrolled the Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs 43-19 at Memorial Stadium.

"We played really well," said Texan Head Coach Sam McElroy. "They were blitzing a lot but we were able to make some plays."

Tarleton pulled one from its bag of tricks on the first play of the game as quarterback Scott Grantham pitched the ball to running back Travis Evans, who then threw the ball to a wide-open Devin Guinn, who raced in untouched for the touchdown. Kicker Garrett Lindholm's extra point made it 7-0. The drive lasted a whopping 17 seconds.

On the third play of Tarleton's second drive, running back Roderick Smith took a handoff to the left side of the field and broke it for a gain of 38 yards to the SWOSU 28-yard line. Four plays later, the Texans looked to add another touchdown when Grantham hit Guinn on a 12-yard pass play, but a penalty backed the Texans up to the Bulldogs' 17-yard line. Two plays later, Grantham overthrew receiver Shamarr Prentiss in the end zone and the Texans settled for a field goal to end the drive. Lindholm's kick made it 10-0 in favor of the Texans.

To begin Tarleton's third possession of the game, Grantham hit Prentiss on an intermediate pass route that Prentiss turned into a 48-yard gain. After Grantham once again overthrew Prentiss in the end zone, Tarleton decided to go for another field goal and once again, Lindholm was dead-on again as the nailed a 41-yarder to put the Texans up 13-0.

The Bulldogs were finally able to get on the board on their third possession of the game. On second and ten from the Tarleton 49-yard line, SWOSU quarterback Jimmy Sangster threw a 13-yard completion to receiver Todd Crumb. Four plays later, Sangster again hit Crumb, this time for a 15-yard gain to the Tarleton 22-yard line. The Bulldogs were unable to capitalize however and settled for a field goal as kicker Spenser Daniel hit a 40-yarder to make the score 13-3 in favor of the Texans.

On the ensuing kickoff, TSU cornerback Nate Robinson to the kick and knifed his way through the coverage team for a 40-yard return to the 50-yard line. Tarleton was unable to do anything with the good field position though and was forced to punt.
