The three main topics of the Oct. 1 Student Government Association Senate meeting were Homecoming Queen Nomination proceedings, Bill 01-07F and Resolution 01-07F.

SGA Senate explained that electing a Homecoming Queen is a two step process. The first step occurs the week prior to homecoming when there will be an open nomination of students for Homecoming Queen. The nominations can be submitted online at the Tarleton homepage. After the nomination votes are counted, the Tarleton homepage will host the election for Homecoming Queen. The women with the most votes in the nomination process will run against each other in the election for Homecoming Queen.

"Coming up on October 15 to 17 will be the opening for nominations for Homecoming Queen and the 22 to 24. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of homecoming week will be the actual elections," said Shane Henry, an SGA executive board member.

Bill 01-07F was passed through the Senate to nominate five students from Tarleton to be submitted for the position on the Texas A&M Board of Regents.

"The board of regents has one student position available on their board," said Brady Pendleton student body president. "Every A&M System University can submit up to five applicants, where two are selected by the chancellor sent to the governor's office and the governor selects one from that pool to serve as student regent for the A&M System. It is probably the most prestigious thing that any student can do as part of a college career because they actually have a voice on the board of regents governing how your university works and the process that your university is going through. Students can pick up an application on the SGA Web site or in front of the SGA office and they are due October 19 at 5 p.m."

Resolution 01-07F was adopted at this meeting. This resolution is concerning the rearranging of the lower level of the Thompson Student Center. In this resolution, the Senate states that they wish to keep a large meeting area for organizations and all the recreational facilities currently available to the students in that area. The Senate asked that the lower level of the campus bookstore be extended to make the best use of that venue and that the new advising center receive a certain amount of space.

A committee was also assembled to address issues that are being neglected concerning the Texan Cards and their quality and to see what can be done to best benefit the students.

The SGA Senate meets every Monday at 5:15 p.m. Room 219 of the TSC. Anyone with any questions can visit the SGA office on the upper level of TSC or visit the SGA Web site www.tarleton.edu/~sga/.
