TexAnn volleyball begin conference, 1-1

Thursday, the TexAnns easily dominated a smaller Eastern New Mexico team in front of a raucous crowd in Wisdom Gym.
The TexAnns started early and didn't look back as they took games one, two, and three handily.
Offensively, Susan Domine led the way for the TexAnns with 22 assists. Stalwart Missy Castro tallied 12 kills on the evening as well as eight digs. Emily Richardson followed closely with 11 kills.
Defensively, Shea McBrearty led the TexAnns with 14 digs followed closely by Prayr Giebler who had 10. Also in action for the TexAnns, Alisha Bourgo turned in nine kills and eight digs.
Leading Eastern New Mexico on offense was Vanessa Wilcox with 11 kills and Karen McIntyre with 16 assists. Caitlin Murphy led the way on defense with 13 digs.
The West Texas A&M game on Sept. 15 did not live up to expectation as the TexAnns were defeated, losing three straight to the Lady Buffs.
The first match was a thrilling contest in which the Lady Buffs came from behind to grab a 30-32 win. The second and third matches, however, were not as close and WTAMU was able to win the game with a strong effort from Melissa Harper, who finished with 20 kills. Natalie Johnson and Laura Prinsen, also of West Texas A&M, each finished with 10 kills. Katie Rickwartz of WTAMU finished with 36 assists.
Leading the way for Tarleton was Alisha Bourgo with nine kills and ten digs. Missy Castro was close behind with nine kills and eight digs.
The TexAnns finished their home stand 2-1 and fell to 6-8 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The TexAnns will return to Tarleton to face Texas A&M-Commerce on Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.
