Rec Sports adds new muscle to staff

The Recreational Sports Department recently hired five new full-time employees to help manage and run the new recreational sports building opening next month. Among the responsibilities of the new employees will be assisting and directing the intramural programs, ensuring the workout equipment is in good shape, beginning and maintaining cardio programs, working with students on the rock climbing wall, and secretarial duties.
Daron Trussell was hired as the assistant director of Intramural Programs. Trussell graduated from Tarleton in 2002 and worked as a graduate assistant for two years before graduating from the University of North Texas with a master's degree.
"Basically, I will be taking over many of (Robert) Nimmo's responsibilities for the Intramural Programs," Trussell said. Trussell added that he was born and raised right here in "the 'Ville."
Kay Cupp is the new Senior Secretary. Before coming to Tarleton, Cupp spent eight years working for the University of Texas at Arlington. Cupp spent six years with Career Services and two years with Housing.
Jakie Williamson joins the recreational sports staff as the Facilities and Equipment Technician. Williamson was originally from Lingleville and his main responsibilities will be to keep the equipment running and keeping the place clean with the environmental crew.
Williamson retired in 2000 after 30 years of coaching. Entering his fourth year at Tarleton and first in the Recreational Sports Department, Williamson previously worked at Tarleton for two years in Environmental Services and one year in Housing.
Sarah Nielsen was hired as the Fitness and Wellness Coordinator. Nielson graduated from the University of Minnesota-Duluth. She will be organizing the cardio and other fitness programs at the new center.
John Michael Cassidy is the new Outdoor Pursuit graduate assisstant. Cassidy joins the Tarleton family after graduating from Middle Tennessee State.
The new recreational sports building is scheduled to open on Oct. 15.
