Question:
What are some of the specific plans that have been proposed for the lower level of the Thompson Student Center with the recreational sports center opening in October?
Answer:
The Student Government Association has been discussing several options for the lower level of the TSC.
Last Monday, Sept. 17, an idea was presented to the Senate that would expand several offices already located in the TSC including the SGA office, General Studies, and even adding onto the lower level of our on-campus bookstore.
The idea also supported adding several student accessible workspaces like a printing center, work room and cubicles available for use by organizations.
One of the biggest benefits for the students in this specific idea is the creation of an academic advising center. This advising center would be a place for students to receive academic advising throughout the year in hopes of keeping them on track for graduation.
At the end of the idea presentation I had the feeling that most students were pleased with the suggestions. Students brought two major concerns to the Senate's attention.
The first expressed concern was of losing one of the largest meeting rooms on campus, 22D. That concern was followed with a worry that students would lose access to the current game room.
The executive council of SGA took notes on all of the expressed concerns and will be meeting to try and work out these issues. A complete proposal will be voted on Sept. 24 at the Senate meeting and again by the House on Sept. 26.
If you have additional concerns or comments, please come to either meeting and make your voice heard.
