Some students have been confused regarding student e-mail accounts. Currently students can use both Webmail and Gateway for their e-mail accounts, but, WebMail will discontinue on the Tarleton Web site as of Oct. 1. Its replacement is called Gateway and is also accessible from the Tarleton home page.

"We hope that all Gateway users will benefit from the improved mail interface and that the new features will improve campus communication," said Rebecca Gray, executive director of Information Technologies Services.

There are some variations between the programs. Be aware that the password on Gateway is case sensitive, where as WebMail is not. To gain access to Gateway, the students will still use the same username and password as they did on WebMail.

Besides e-mail, Gateway offers new functions such as various news feeds, a personal calendar, the option to create bookmarks for favorite Web sites and up-to-date news and dates for organizations. Gateway also has an available e-mail directory that includes students, faculty, and staff. However, any personal contacts that accumulated in WebMail's personal address book will not be moved over to Gateway. That information will have to be entered into Gateway. Gateway also does not change the student email storage capacity.

If there are any questions concerning the shift from WebMail to Gateway, please contact the Computer Help Desk, located on the second floor of the humanities building, at its e-mail helpdesk@tarleton.edu.
