Joe R. Christopher, Tarleton State University's Professor Emeritus of English, recently had several works published including essays and a poem over his specialty topic, C.S. Lewis.
Christopher's paper, titled "Gender Hierarchies and Lowerarchies: A Response to Mary Stewart Van Leeuwen and Adam Barkman," appeared in the Summer 2007 issue of the Christian Scholar's Review. The article was a response to two essays about Lewis' gender attitudes.
Christopher also published two poems in The Lamp-Post in April, "The Inklings" and "C. S. Lewis, Poet." "The Inklings," under its deliberately misleading title, was an ironic piece about tattooing.
"C. S. Lewis, Poet" was a praise of Lewis as poet, intended to indirectly respond to some critics who have said Lewis was poorer as a writer of poetry than he was of prose.
At a meeting of the C. S. Lewis and Inklings Society, held at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene on March 23 and 24, Christopher read a paper titled "The Complexity of Feng." Christopher also serves as treasurer for the group.
At a June meeting of the Dorothy L. Sayers Society, held at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill., Christopher read a paper titled "On Dorothy L. Sayers as a War Poet." The paper has since been published in the Proceedings of the 2007 Dorothy L. Sayers Convention. The Sayers Society is a British organization that has twice met at Wheaton College because of the school's collection of Sayers' papers.
