Golf team wins first tournament of the year

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Tarleton TexAnn golf team picked up this season where they left off last season, winning tournaments.

The TexAnns used a 624 two-day total (305-319) to win the Drury Regional Shootout in Springfield, Mo. The TexAnns finished nine strokes ahead of Northeastern State.

Tarleton's Carla Cooper finished tied for second with a two-day total of 150 (70-80). Maury Shock tied for 11th with a 158 (78-80) while Shraddhanjali Singh finished with a 159 (82-77) and tied for 13th. Andrea Love tied for 16th with a 160 (78-82) and Melanie Tham tied for 21st with a 162.

Tarleton's Morgan German finished with a two-day total of 190 (97-93).

Winning the individual title was Upper Iowa's Rachael Schmidt with a 148 (75-73), two strokes better than Cooper.

California (Pa.) finished third (641), Drury (645) was tied for fourth with Upper Iowa (645) to finish out the top five teams.

The TexAnns will return to action at the Northeastern State Classic Sept. 17-18 at the Cobblestone Creek Golf Club in Muskogee, Okla.
