Freshman killed in one-car accident Tuesday morning

Tarleton State University freshman Stephen R. Cage, a Management, Marketing and administrative Systems major from Conroe, was killed in an auto accident early Tuesday morning on Washington Street near Lillian Street.
The vehicle ran into a retaining wall on campus near the road. Stephen was announced dead at the scene.
Three other Tarleton freshmen in the vehicle were taken to Erath County Harris Methodist Hospital. Ryan D. Mason, of Colleyville, and Ryan K. Crutsinger are in stable condition. Matthew S. Ulibarri, of Nocona, was treated and released.
Tarleton University Police responded to a call at 3:22 a.m. and arrived at the scene.
An investigation is underway as to the cause of the accident.
"Our concern is with the family and friends of Stephen," said Tarleton President Dennis P. McCabe. "Our thoughts and prayers are with them as well as the other students involved in the accident."
Memorial services are pending at this time.
Individuals who are grieving the loss of Stephen may contact the professional staff in the Student Counseling Center. The counseling center is located in room 212 of the Thompson Student Center, or may be contacted by calling 254.968.9044 to make an appointment. There is no cost associated with the visit and everything discussed is held in the strictest of confidence.
