On Thursday, Sept. 18, Tarleton staff members gathered in the Thompson Student Center Ballrooms to celebrate the Staff Employee of the Year Banquet. The Oscar-themed award ceremony honored the university's most outstanding staff members of the 2007-2008 academic year, came to a close as the award was presented to Registered Nurse Nancy Gaither.
Candidates for Employee of the Year included all 12 Employee of the Month recipients from the last academic year, from September of 2007 to August of 2008. The honorees respectively included Administrative Supervisor Fran Teten; Electrical, Mechanical and Plumbing Supervisor Tom Robinson; Manager Jamie Trusner; Program Specialist Angie Nimmo; Head of Cataloging Glenda Stone; Systems Librarian Tracy Holtman; Accounts Receivable Barbara McCoy; Carol Naegele; Buyer Lisa Stroebel; Lead Electrician James Wilson Jr.; Acquisitions Specialist Kay Wiley and Gaither.
Guests at the banquet entered down a Hollywood-style red carpet before the ceremony began. Mark Holtorf and the Tarleton Improve Group entertained guests, incorporating volunteers into their act and asking for suggestions from the audience. As guests dined, a slide show played, showing photographs of each candidate.
University President Dominic Dottavio then presented the award for Employee of the Year to Gaither.
"This has truly been an inspirational evening," said Dottavio. "Tarleton is an extraordinarily spirited place. Most importantly, it has great people."
Gather accepted her award, giving special thanks to her co-workers in the Student Health Center. She has been an employee at Tarleton for more than 11 years and assists as the Duck Camp nurse each summer.
